Town of Southampton Recognizes National First Responders Day • Southampton, NY

At the Town of Southampton, we are proud to recognize National First Responders Day on Oct. 28th. This day serves as a tribute to the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities in times of crisis.

“The Town of Southampton is home to many dedicated and wonderful first responders,” said Supervisor Maria Moore. “The residents and visitors in the Town of Southampton are protected every day by our amazing law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, dispatchers and community emergency response team members,” said Supervisor Moore. The services that these first responders provide are second to none and they are essential to the protection and preservation of our community.

“We are very proud of our first responders,” said Councilwoman Cyndi McNamara. “Whether paid or volunteer, the men and women of our emergency services community

routinely take time away from their own families to attend trainings and meetings. They also often work long shifts, double shifts or go out on calls that take them away for large portions of their day,” McNamara went on to say.

Town Code Compliance and Emergency Management Administrator Ryan Murphy said, “The work of first responders is not without risks. First responders face physical demands and risks, stress related risks, emotional risks and mental health risks. The commitment to facing these risks each day in service to our community and those in need is worthy of accolades and gratitude. We are grateful to have such dedicated responders in service to our community.” The remainder of the Town Board members echoed the same sentiments shared by Supervisor Moore, Councilwoman McNamara and Town Emergency Manager

Murphy. Each councilmember thanked and applauded our dedicated first responders for their commitment to excellence and their services to our community.

The Town of Southampton is served by a Town Police Department, our own 911 Dispatch Center, eleven volunteer fire departments, six volunteer ambulance corps, and the Town Department of Public Safety & Emergency Management. Also active within the Town are multiple village police departments, relationships with the New York State Police and other law enforcement agencies, volunteer members of the Suffolk County Community Emergency Response Team and many other current and retired first responders who call the Town of Southampton their home.
