Town of East Hampton- Airport Attendant in the Airport Department – $51,883.73 annually for a 40-hour week

An employee in this class is responsible for issuing advisory information about wind direction and velocity, visibility ceilings and runway conditions. A daily log is kept of all airport operations. Duties include patrolling the airport runways, grounds and facilities in order to check for vandalism, burned out runway lights, broken fences, airplane tie-downs and other safety and security conditions. Responsibility is also included for the cleaning of the airport building and for answering inquiries from the public. Supervision is received from an administrative supervisor through conferences and observation of work performed. Does related work as required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Receives and transmits advisory information on a two-way radio from air­planes which are taking off or landing at a local municipal airport;
  • Maintains a daily log regarding all of the operations at an airport;
  • Patrols the grounds of the airport regularly to check for vandalism, breakage of equipment and other safety and security conditions;
  • May replace runway light bulbs or clear debris when necessary;
  • May operate a crash truck in the event of emergencies;
  • Cleans and maintains public areas, offices or bathrooms in the buildings of the airport;
  • May assist in airplane tie-downs when necessary;
  • May collect fees for the use of the airport by landing or departing planes;
  • Answers inquiries and gives information to the general public.

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, and the annual rate of pay is $51,883.73 with benefits, including paid vacation, enrollment in the New York State and Local Retirement system and health care and dental and vision coverage.
