Play Smart – Never throw when other park users are within range.
Disc Golf Terms
TEE-OFF – Tee throws must be completed from a designated tee box located at the beginning of each hole and marked by a tee sign.
LIE – Where a throw comes to rest. If your disc comes to rest in a tree or a bush, the LIE is the spot on the ground directly below and there is no penalty. Please take care to avoid vegetation damage.
FAIRWAY THROW – After your tee shot, each successive throw is a fairway throw up and until your disc enters the putting area. One can stand in place, walk or run up to your last lie, as long as the disc is released at or before that lie.
PUTTING AREA – Within 10 meters (32′ 10″) of the basket.
PUTT – A throw from within the PUTTING AREA. When putting, you may not step past your LIE before your disc is released. The hole is completed when the disc comes to rest in the basket or chains. Note that you can place one foot at your lie and step around, but not closer, with the other foot to avoid an impediment for a clearer putt.
MANDO – A mandatory (or, commonly, “mando”) is when a course mandates how disc golfers’ discs can legally pass an obstacle as they complete a hole. Mandos simply force players to go left or right of something like a tree (or barn). A player who passes a mando object incorrectly or “misses the mando” (e.g., passes a tree on the right when the mando say to go left of it) adds one penalty throw to their score for a hole.
DOUBLE MANDO –Two mandos that work together to force players to go between them.
ISLAND GREEN (MANDO) – An island green with a mando requires the player’s disc to land within a specified area (island) from the tree. Missing the island green results in a penalty stroke.
OUT-OF-BOUNDS – Any asphalted or cemented surface (driveway, parking lot, walking trail, chess table area, etc.). Add a 1-throw penalty and play from the LIE of the last-in-bounds location or retee.
