An oceanfront Hamptons home owned by the estate of the late Belgian-Armenian diamond-dealing heir Ara Arslanian has hit the market for a cool $45 million.
The residence, at 15 Dune Road in Bridgehampton, sits on 1.91 acres and comes with prime ocean frontage, with views of Mecox Bay. It’s one of the first major Hamptons oceanfront homes to come to market this year.
Arslanian bought the property in the early 1980s, and built the modern oceanfront estate that stands today in 2018. He passed away last November.
Previously, the home had been on the market as a rental, asking $990,000 for four weeks, or $495,000 for two weeks, according to prior listings.
At 8,000 square feet, the dreamy modern beach manse delivers seven bedrooms, seven baths, two powder rooms and stunning views. There’s also a roomy chef’s kitchen, two fireplaces and a home office. Designed by Mark C. Matthews Architecture in collaboration with Francis D’Haene of D’Apostrophe Design Inc., the home also features a sun-lit, open layout that maximizes water views.
Outside, there’s a deck, a pool and a private path to the beach.
Well known in the global diamond trade, Arsianian was an art collector who circulated in the 1980s downtown New York art scene. An avid collector, he was an early supporter of Jean-Michel Basquiat early on and was close to Keith Haring, Andy Warhol and Julian Schnabel.
The Hamptons residence was Arsianian’s passion project, friends said. He spent close to a decade building the retreat, designed for indoor/outdoor entertaining with dramatic ocean views. The home was also a backdrop for his art collection, which also included original Warhols.
Art displayed in the Hamptons home was protected by Arcadia glass and UV-protected windows, said Douglas Elliman’s Kyle Rosko, who is co-listing the property as an exclusive with Keren Ringler and John Gomes, also of Douglas Elliman.
“Creating and building this home was his opus,” Rosko said. “We started talking after meeting on the beach and we became friends. He was an incredible human and he was friendly with some incredible people in his lifetime. He was surrounded by a lot of love — you can feel it in the house.”
To start, Rosko said, the dwelling was designed “to capture the light. The sunset over the water pours into the living room.”
Arslanian also designed “specially angled walls in the bedroom so that it overlooks the ocean and Mecox Bay.”
The house also has an all-glass elevator “overlooking the dune, into the ocean. Nobody does that,” Rosko said, adding that the home is turnkey ready so a buyer could move in for the summer season.
It’s also filled with “nuanced collectible art pieces and custom made furniture,” Rosko said adding that some might be available for purchase. “I am certain people will be interested the attention to detail and the playfulness and the love — everything captures the ocean, and you can watch the waves crash on the shore from five of the bedrooms. It is amazing.”
