News Flash • East Hampton Encourages Community to Participat

The Town of East Hampton and the East Hampton Litter Action Committee have designated Saturday, September 20, 2025 as East Hampton CleanUp Day, inviting all residents, businesses, civic organizations, and environmental groups to take part by organizing their own local cleanup.

The event aligns with National CleanUp Day, a coordinated effort that draws over two million volunteers nationwide to tackle litter and build awareness around environmental stewardship.

“We’re asking everyone to take ownership of a small piece of our shared environment,” said Councilmember Cate Rogers, who serves as Town Board liaison to the Litter Action Committee. “Whether it’s a road, trail, park, or beach, your efforts add up. This is about neighbors stepping up, taking pride, and protecting the beauty of the place we all love.”

Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez added, “We know that small actions, taken together, can lead to lasting change. CleanUp Day is a great reminder of the power of community—when people roll up their sleeves, look out for one another, and give back to the place we call home.”

How to Participate:

  • Choose a location to clean (road, beach, trail, or park)
  • Gather your group (friends, neighbors, coworkers, or students)
  • Pick up litter anytime on Saturday, September 20

A flyer is being distributed to encourage participation, and a follow-up with printable resources will be shared in the coming weeks.

“Every small action makes a big difference,” Christine Ganitsch, Chairperson of the Litter Action Committee. “CleanUp Day is an opportunity for all of us to show we care.”
