The East Hampton Town Board has appointed Russell Young as the Town’s Director of Code Enforcement, effective November 3, 2025. The appointment was approved during the Board’s October 27, 2025, meeting.
A lifelong East Hampton resident and graduate of East Hampton High School, Mr. Young began his career with the Town in 2011 as a Traffic Control Officer. He was appointed as an Ordinance Inspector in 2017 and promoted to Ordinance Enforcement Officer in 2022, steadily advancing through the department’s ranks over the past fourteen years. In addition to his service with the Town, Mr. Young is a volunteer firefighter with the East Hampton Fire Department, where he has served since 2016.
The Town’s Code Enforcement Department plays a vital role in maintaining the health, safety, and quality of life of East Hampton’s residents. The department investigates and responds to complaints involving zoning, building, and land-use violations, as well as issues such as illegal construction, excessive noise, unsafe or substandard buildings, and other conditions that may affect neighborhood character or environmental integrity. Code Enforcement officers also work collaboratively with other Town departments to uphold local laws designed to protect East Hampton’s natural resources, community standards, and overall quality of life.
“Russell understands that code enforcement is about protecting what makes East Hampton special,” said Town Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez. “From keeping neighborhoods safe to safeguarding our natural environment, this work has a direct impact on the everyday lives of our residents. We’re grateful to have Russell leading this important department.”
Deputy Town Supervisor Cate Rogers, who serves as the Town Board liaison to the Code Enforcement Department, added, “The Code Enforcement team is often on the front lines of community concerns. Russell’s steady leadership and deep understanding of our town will help ensure that residents, visitors, and local businesses are treated fairly while we continue working to preserve the character and quality of life that define East Hampton.”
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve this community in this leadership role,” said Russell Young. “Our department’s work is about keeping East Hampton safe, well-maintained, and true to the character that makes it such a great place to live. I look forward to continuing to work with residents and my colleagues to keep our town strong and well cared for.”
