On Monday, November 2, 2026, the Southampton Town Board and Village of Sag Harbor celebrated a major milestone with the Town’s $7.5 million acquisition of Redwood Marina, located at 40 Redwood Road in Sag Harbor, preserving an important piece of our maritime heritage for generations to come!
Through this partnership, the marina’s 60 boat slips will prioritize affordable dockage exclusively for full-time residents and property owners of Southampton Town and Sag Harbor Village, ensuring local families can continue to enjoy our beautiful waterways.
Redwood Marina will also provide a permanent space for Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Marine Program and its Back to the Bays initiative, supporting marine education, water quality testing, eelgrass restoration, and shellfish restoration projects to help protect Sag Harbor Cove.
Special thanks to the Southampton Town Board, Sag Harbor Mayor Tom Gardella, Trustee Jean Kane, the Village Board, Town CPF Director Jacquie Fenlon, and CPF Attorney Dan McCormick and Kimberly Barbour and her team at Cornell Cooperative Extension for their dedication to making this acquisition possible.
A heartfelt thank you to longtime marina owner Gerald Schwenk, who operated the facility for over 30 years and chose to preserve its community purpose rather than accept higher private development offers.
This is what community preservation is all about! Protecting our waterfront, preserving maritime traditions, supporting local families, and investing in the future of our environment.
A victory for our boaters, our waterways, and our community!
