McNamara Unveils Fourth Annual Hometown Heroes Banner Program • Southampton, NY

In honor of Memorial Day, Councilwoman Cyndi McNamara, in partnership with Westhampton VFW Post 5350, proudly unveiled the fourth annual Hometown Heroes Banner Program. The initiative recognizes and honors local military men and women by displaying personalized banners featuring their photographs and military service information in Good Ground Park (9A Squiretown Road, Hampton Bays) and has expanded to Southampton Town Hall (116 Hampton Road, Southampton).

Interactive QR codes are posted at both Good Ground Park and Town Hall.  Visitors can scan these codes to read or listen to the personal stories of the service members being honored.

“Programs like the Hometown Heroes Banner Program, Honor Flight Long Island and Hampton Bays School District’s Living Classroom are so important,” stated Councilwoman McNamara, liaison to the Veterans Affairs Committee.  “It’s an opportunity to ensure our local heroes are recognized and remembered.”

Bill Hughes Commander of VFW Post 5350 and Chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee stated, “It’s a true honor to have served.  When people say ‘thank you for your service,’ it deeply touches my heart. We are fortunate, but we must remember all of the thousands of service members throughout the world, that are serving us and keeping us free.”

A portion of the proceeds from the purchase of the banner is administered by Westhampton VFW Post 5350 to benefit local veterans’ organizations or to assist families with a banner purchase. The banner program will run from Memorial Day through Veterans Day at Good Ground Park, located at 9A Squiretown Road in Hampton Bays and Southampton Town Hall, located at 116 Hampton Road, Southampton. All sponsors will be given their banners at the end of the program period.
