Supervisor Moore, Assemblyman Schiavoni Partner to Fund Southampton LIRR Facilities Upgrades • Southampton, NY

Assemblyman Tommy John Schiavoni and Southampton Town Supervisor Maria Moore have announced a joint effort to improve the LIRR parking facilities at several train stations in the Town.

Assemblyman Schiavoni has pledged a $100,000 grant to the Town for this effort. Supervisor Moore’s 2027 budget is expected to include $200,000 in Town funds, half of which will be reimbursed by the State grant, to ensure capital improvements at the stations are fully funded.

The Town currently has an agreement with the MTA/LIRR to maintain the parking facilities at three stations in the Town-Speonk, Westhampton, and Bridgehampton. In Hampton Bays, the current parking area is on Good Ground Rd, and a joint Town agreement involving MTA property is expected to be signed in 2027. Various improvements at these four locations will be site specific and will range from new signage and striping to repaving, drainage and increased capacity.

Improvements such as these will increase the availability of the South Fork Commuter Connection (SFCC), which was created in 2019. Currently, the SFCC takes commuters across the Shinnecock Canal each weekday on this critical transportation link to points east. The goal is to reduce the number of cars on the road by giving those commuters the option to travel to work on SFCC trains.

“The Town is committed to working with Assemblyman Schiavoni and the MTA to improve train service on the South Fork” said Supervisor Maria Moore. “Ensuring the parking facilities at the train stations are in a state of good repair is an important component of this effort and we appreciate Assemblyman Schiavoni’s continuing strong support.”

Assembly member Tommy John Schiavoni said, “With hopes of expanding LIRR train service on the East End, it is important that Southampton Town improves its capacity for parked cars. I am proud to say that these funds will assist the town in its efforts to refurbish, repair, and expand parking infrastructure at local LIRR stations, ensuring that

Southampton can accommodate increased train service and allowing the Commuter Connection to take more cars off the road.”

Town Council member Tom Neely, a longtime advocate for improvements to the train service, and who helped coordinate this effort, remarked, “It is great to see our Assemblyman and Supervisor working closely together to provide the needed funding. Besides making much needed improvements, this will send a message to the MTA that the South Fork is committed to doing our part to support improved LIRR service”.
