Please Take Notice: Development in Flood Hazard Areas
Minimum elevation requirements for construction within flood hazard areas are being revised under the New York State Residential Code and New York State Building Code. These changes take effect on December 31, 2025, and the Town is required to apply them to all permit applications filed on or after that date.
At this time, New York State is developing additional guidance to assist municipalities with local implementation of these changes. That guidance is expected in January.
Until further detail is available, residents and professionals planning projects within flood hazard overlay zones should consult the applicable New York State Building Code requirements. The East Hampton Town Code will not be updated until the State issues further guidance.
